Sorry for my lack of recaps people, I was very busy yesterday with some personal epic projects, but I’m back and excited for tonight’s episode. Yesterday, on men’s night, we were told that Miss Crystal Bowersox was having a medical issue, apparently she was in a diabetic coma, and tonight we learn if she is kicked off the competition, this would be a shame, I liked her style.
Once the episode started, we were pleased to hear that Crystal is in fact performing tonight. After a few jokes about Kara scoping in toward Simon, our coma gal was first.
“As Long as I can See the Light” by Creedence Clearwater was what Crystal chose for the first song of the night. For me, this was another great song sung by Crystal, and a great star of the episode. My rating for this song is 5/5
•Randy said she was the truth, and wasn’t trying to be anyone else.
•Ellen said it was pure raw natural talent, and amazing.
•Kara said she fit the song effortlessly, and hit a new level.
•Simon liked how she didn’t play the sympathy card, and the vocal was incredible.
Haeley Vaughn’s up second this week, and people…I am not super excited about her performance, but you never know. After talking about her smile, she sang Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb.” talk about sounding too Disney. 3/5 for me, I didn’t really expect more.
•Randy kept it real saying it didn’t work and was excruciating.
•Ellen complimented her on her smiles, but also didn’t feel any connection to the song
•Kara compared her to the Alex Lambert factor, whatever that means.
•Simon said it was a complete and utter mess. Also ironic that she sang a song about climbing when she actually fell off.
Lacey Brown was number three for the night. After talking about her hobby of shopping for antiques. She took the judges advice and sang “Kiss Me”. She got the audience to give her a pretty positive reaction, and I as well, 4/5.
•Randy said it was a good song choice, but it felt like karaoke.
•Ellen said she was adorable, and it was the right choice.
•Kara said it was better than last week, but she still needs to step it up, but still keep a good attitude.
•Simon said it wasn’t memorable, compared to others lime Crystal
Katie Stevens was our next contestant after the commercial break. After asking us to kiss her in six different languages, she sang “Put Your Records On”. It was alright for me, but I wasn’t overly impressed with it…3.5/5
•Randy said that even though she is young, she can tackle more difficult song, which is cool.
•Ellen thinks she has a great voice, but still isn’t singing the right songs for her age.
•Kara liked how she was taking control of the song later on, but she has to be doing that from the start.
•Simon said what she’s failing to do is tell them what kind of recording artist she is.
Didi Benabi was fifth out of ten girls tonight. She told us about her adventures as a mascot, and her….meowing…before she sang “Lean on Me.” It was good, but if I saw her in concert, that just felt like a weird choice for her. 3/5
•Randy pretty much agreed with me saying it was the wrong song.
•Ellen loves her voice, but again, was the wrong song to sing.
•Kara said it wasn’t good, and wants consistency from her.
•Simon made a crack about her meowing saying her singing also sounded like a cat, and this was a missed opportunity.
Michelle Delamor was next talking about working with kids, then praying before each performance. “With Arms Wide Open” This performance was much more believable for me, but this song by Creed is a hard song to sing, so I give it a 4/5.
•Randy didn’t think she did enough with the song
•Ellen thought she did change it up, and almost worked, but not quite.
•Kara said it was her favorite performance of hers ever.
•Simon agreed with Kara, and liked that she didn’t pick a safe song.
Lilly Scott, our white-haired champion was up next. She told us about her experience using several different musical instruments before singing “A Change is Yet to Come”. I think she did a great job with this song, a 5/5 for me.
•Randy loves how unique she was, and was Randy’s favorite of the night.
•Ellen said she had “It”
•Kara said she had her moment tonight, and she did an unbelievable job.
•Simon said it was good, but wasn’t crazy about it like the others.
Katelyn Epperly was next singing “The Scientist” by Coldplay. For me, I really enjoyed it despite a few pitch problems, so I give it a 4/5.
•Randy said it was way slow, but he liked it.
•Ellen like the guitar, then realized it was a piano, but it was slow and almost put her to sleep.
•Kara kind of loves her, because she’s all over the place, but is really good.
•Simon said it was a smart song, but has to work on not being corny, but it was a million times better than last week.
Paige Miles was up next getting dehydrated, and talking about her coloring books. “Walk Away” by Kelly Clarkson was her song of the night. Singing Kelly Clarkson is tough, and I think she did a pretty good job, not perfect, but was very good. 4.5/5
•Randy liked it, but didn’t know it was the best choice.
•Ellen loved it, and loved her energy and attitude.
•Kara could see her making a hit with that song, but the song was an angry song, and if she really felt it, she wouldn’t be smiling.
•Simon said he agreed with Randy and was frustrated that she picked the wrong song.
Siobhan Magnus was our last contestant, do we end tonight with a bang? We’ll see. “Think” was the closing song. All I have to say, is this was a pretty good ending song choice, and I was surprised at how much she pulled it off, especially the insane last high note. 4.5/5
•Randy loves how bold she was, and loved the performance.
•Ellen loved it too.
•Kara loved the ending note.
•Simon said she’s very strange and interesting but in a good way.
It’s a tough one tonight folks, but I would have to say vote for Crystal Bowersox, and the two getting voted off, I predict to be Haeley Vaughn and Didi Benabi, peace out!
