This week, the top 5 finalists sang from the songbook from Neil Diamond. Here’s what went down:
Up first was Jason Castro. Castro and the rest of the gang were given two songs to sing for the night. The songs he chose were “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “September Morn” For both songs,
•Randy thought both were Ok.
•Paula at first thought he sang two songs. Lay off the booze Paula! She thought he just sang safe songs, and told him to get out of his comfort zone.
•Simon thought both songs were forgettable.
•I thought both songs got a 4/5 which totaled to 8/10.
David Cook took the stage next. His choices were “I’m Alive” and “All I Really Need is You.”
•Randy thought the first song was very good, and thought he rocked the house with the second song.
•Paula thought the first song was fantastic, and thought he pulled it off with the second.
•Simon thought the first was ok, and thought the second one was brilliant.
I thought the first got a 3/5, and the second got a 5/5, totalling 8/10 as well.
Brooke White took the stage next with songs “I’m a Believer” and “I Am I Said.”
•Randy thought the first sounded a bit Kareoke-ish. Thought she did a nice job with her second song.
•Paula said the second song really connected to Brooke well.
•Simon thought the first song was a nightmare, and said this is the Brooke we love with the sons song.
I gave her first song a 3/5, and her second song a 4/5, totalling to the lowest score of this night, a 7/10.
David Archuleta sang “Sweet Caroline” and “America.”
•Randy thought the first song was the bomb, and the second song was in-the-zone.
•Paula thought the second song was perfect song for him.
•Simon thought the first song was amateur-ish, and the second song was Clever, the right choice.
I gave both performances a 5/5, totalling to the highest score possible, a 10/10.
Syesha sang last with “Hello, Again” and “Thank the Lord for the Nightime”
•Randy thought she had nice, strong vocals in the first song. He thought she was in the zone with the second.
•Paula said the first song was beautiful, and started to talk gibberish when it came to the second song. (At a loss of words?)
•Simon thought the first song was average, and thought she is a good actress singer for the second, but thinks she may be in trouble.
I gave the first song 4/5 and 5/5 for the second song. So that’s 9/5.
Here are my predictions:
1. David Archuleta
2. Syesha Mercado
3. David Cook
4. Jason Castro
5. Brooke White.
I thought they all did good. But everyones got to go at some point. We’ll see… Peace Out!
